Kurt Vonnegut maps out the Shape of Stories (Infographic of the Day from Fast Company's Co Design).
I recently rewatched Inception on DVD, and it reminded me of a piece I saw in Mental Floss a while ago. How can such an intricate plot be created? Short answer, it was plotted out on 1 piece of paper. We generally think of storyboards and screenplays, but everything began with this graph.
In a similar vein, J.K. Rowlings utilized a handwritten graph or spreadsheet to organize plot, subplots, and characters. Thanks again to Mental Floss for this find.
I'm a sucker for great storytelling, and I found this to be a particularly interesting peak into the creative process.
